The first Christmas party after
the end of World War II

CHRISTMAS in 1945 was one to remember - not for the lavish presents or piles of food but because the war was over.
These photographs were sent in by Mavis Fryer, of Battle Road, and the first one was taken in Blacklands Church Hall in about 1945.
Mrs Fryer, nee Bowen, said: "It was the first Christmas party to be held after the war. I am on the far right and my sister Jeanne is at the back holding Barry Lowden. Next to her is Andrea Biker and then the Rev Kenneth Morgan.
"Other names I recall are Ann Hawkins, Beryl Taylor, Jill Neeve, Diana Lawson, Ann Pettit, Shirley or Maureen Page, Pat Homewood and some of her brothers."
