No 5 Company RNVR, 1910

A WEALTH of history lies in photographs and memories - but only if the stories are passed on.
A son looking through his late mother's items came across this picture. But it wasn't the faces that sparked tales from the past.
Hastings councillor Peter Finch said: "I know nothing about the naval group in the front of the picture.
"But it was taken in Seaside Road, St Leonards, with Railway Cottages in the background and Madeira Seaside Road on the right under construction."
The naval group is holding a sign which reads: "No 5 Company RNVR, winners of the Farquhar Bowl 1910."
Cllr Finch said: "The date is correct as my grandfather, Frederick Thacker was having Madeira built for the family.
"I was born at Madeira 30 years later and spent much of my childhood there.
"The property was owned by my family until the 1990s."
The faces in the photograph are very clear and if you recognise any of them or remember tales of the group, share your memories and contact Richard Morris on 01424 856784 or email richard.morris@trbeckett.co.uk
